Now Reading: Michael Gruber, The Forgery of Venus
In preparation for reading this work, one would struggle hard to do better than studying this excellent Wikipedia article on the painting *Las Meninas* by Diego Velasquez: [link] Early in that article, it is said: "The work's complex and enigmatic composition raises questions about reality and... more »

OT - iPad?
My mailbox today had spam from Apple about a new iPad coming soon. My cousin has one that she loves - she does genealogy and takes hers around the country so she can add information and look things up. I looked at the promo site and see that in addition to a ton of other things, it has an eBook reader of some kind, and a "store" to buy more. Well, I'm not... more »

Given the unusual 'grinding' sounds emanating time to time from my hard drive, I am going to be shopping for this pretty soon! And a new HP printer too... mine... more »

Jill Churchill comment
This may just be a reflection of my taste, but I have now read the first two Jane Jeffreys books. They were mildly interesting, but there are other series I like considerably more. I have also read the first Grace and Favor book and plan to look for the others. I really DO like this series.

Why are Nordic detective novels so successful?
The Economist THE neat streets of Oslo are not a natural setting for crime fiction. Nor, with its cows and country smells, is the flat farming land of Sweden’s southern tip. And Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital, is now associated more with financial misjudgment than gruesome murder. Yet in the past... more »

Sad News for RAM
I'm very sorry to have to tell you that Woodstock's husband, Dwight, passed away late Thursday evening. I have no other information at the moment. He had just moved from a 45 minutes distant Hospice Care Center to a skilled nursing facility that was much closer to their home. I am sure you will join me in sending prayers/comforting thoughts to... more »
