Not sure I thought of the Metropolitan books as *heavy*, exactly. But
then, analyzing WJW in terms of "heft vs light" seems somehow wrong.
_This Is Not a Game_ is a very well-written book.
The paperback of _TINaG_ has a preview of his next book, which is
another near-future techy thriller spy setup.

"Ringworld's Children", though, I enjoyed a whole lot.
It had a lot of the "Wow!" concepts that the original
had, which I found lacking in "Ringworld Throne."

I agree, although I would have said "and not know it's a pretense" so
I could have understood it quicker when I read it.
I ate there several times but the barbecue place a little further down
the line, Big Bubba's, has won my allegiance again.

There's one in Murrells Inlet that seemed pretty good to me the one time
I've stopped (so far). They even had a "Best Soda-Jerk" national contest
there for a few years.

I don't recall it in enough detail to discuss the points you made, but yes,
I also found it a great disappointment. _This is Not a Game_, on the other
hand, was also light, but a lot of fun. Still, I'm ready for WJW to do
something with more meat on it. (The third Metropolitan book, perhaps?)
